I don't know why I ever stopped doing this. [The snowy background today seems to be outside the Ecruteak Gym, with Lancer in a seasonally appropriate oversized jacket--with a secure and comfortable Wartortle poking its head out of the collar. That probably wasn't a standard accessory.] Guess I just got settled in one place too long, y'know?

[As for what 'this' is, Lancer seemed to be tossing a small metallic object to himself in one hand, and that Wartortle was looking awfully pleased with himself.]

But I guess we never did figure out if there was really a point to it, did we? Collect all the badges, nothin' really happens? At least there's some fun to be had out of gettin' them in the first place.

[He shrugged, frowning in what was probably an expression of thought.]

...Guess it'd be annoying if we were just dropped here with nothing interesting to do.

It doesn't seem like there's any point to collecting them. You get the first set of eight and... nothing. I don't think the second set of eight do anything either, but I haven't heard of anyone collecting all the badges.

[Mondo is sitting on a bench somewhere in what appears to be Goldenrod. He's not dressed for the weather, but he doesn't seem bothered by it any. Someone should probably tell him that the usual coat really isn't going to keep him from catching a cold.]

I guess they provide a nice challenge if you've got a team leveled up all the way, but I doubt it's too difficult if you've got a type advantage.

From what I hear, there's no advantage to Breeders gaining the badges. Or is that wrong? You seem to know a bit about this place.

[From watching the Network, Kaneki has managed to glean enough information that has somewhat filled in the gaps of his otherwise spotty Pokemon knowledge. Badges are...well, one thing he still really barely knows anything about.

He almost feels a bit embarrassed asking, but he doesn't have anything else to do so here we go...]

So...do the badges actually do anything? It sounds like people collect them just for the sake of doing it.

...ah, that really reminds me that I completely forgot about challenging Morty... perhaps I ought to consider doing it eventually, but you really have to put effort into it to make it challenging for the first set of badges if you've been there for a reasonably long time.

It's far less enjoyable if winning is the expected result instead of something less predictable.

There's no grand prize for getting them all. Believe me, I've done it-- all sixteen, and the most I've got to show for it is a ticket to a fancy cruise and some discounts in the shops.

They're good for practical purposes, I guess, like using Fly and Surf, but they really don't offer any huge incentives. Just small perks.
