[This morning the video shows Route 30 from ground level; judging by the sounds, a Venonat is the one messing with the 'Gear today. Her trainer sitting on the ground nearby hadn't seemed to notice it was on just yet. Lancer's hair wasn't even tied back, and it looked like he'd been asleep until not too long ago.]

Some holiday. Leave it to humans to come up with something this ridiculous. [The former Servant spoke mostly to himself, running a hand through his dark and disheveled hair.] But knowing you, you probably would have done something for it.

[Rummaging through his backpack, Lancer kept talking to himself.] If I was even with you for this long, I imagine you'd have made some kind of excuse or just told me to shut up and take whatever you gave me. But you seemed to be kind of a pain like that.

[Smirking, he took out a small object and set it on the ground. Beside it, he stuck half of a broken fishing rod into the ground as a marker of some sort--it wasn't a lance, but it would serve its purpose.]

Just my kind of woman. [A sigh.] I know it's not going to get to you, but this is the best I could manage. I don't expect we'll meet again even in this place, so...farewell, my friend.

[His back to the camera, Lancer stood up and ran a hand through his hair again before finally tying it back. The Servant looked over his shoulder, a small smirk on his face.]

It's about time for us to get going. We should find that Cecil kid if we want to get to Violet soon.

Let's go...Fragarach.

[The Venonat gave a happy sound in response, knocking over the Pokegear and turning off the video in her rush to hop over to her Trainer.]

[That Cecil "kid" (and Xion) will probably catch up around mid-morning. Two people on a galloping Arcanine should be easy to see, right?]

[Why yes, yes it would be.]

[And Lancer realized after getting a look at said Arcanine that damn did he want one.]

[Jealous? Nah.]

[There are, like, three breeders out there with Growlithes, along with the wild ones. And Fire Stones only cost a few days' salary. Arcanines can be part of anyone's future!

The moment Cecil sees Lancer, he tells Flare to go to him. Don't worry, he has good breaks.]

Good morning. Are you still interested in a faster trip?

Sure, if you'll put up with me. [He gave the Arcanine an affectionate pat, grinning.]

[Flare likes affectionate pats. Flare likes them very much.]

Climb on, then. We have room at the back.

[Lancer hopped on with a low, impressed whistle, Venonat clinging to his shoulder.]

So what's this kind called? I haven't seen one like it before.

[And off they go, toward the fabulous city of Violet!]

Flare is an Arcanine. They are Fire-types, and they evolve from Growlithes with Fire Stones.

Another canine fire-type? Funny coincidence.

Another? Do you have one of those Houndoom, then?

Houndour, yeah. I started with her.

Is that so? I've only seen the evolution, but the one I know is rather loyal and friendly. Is yours the same?

She's a load of trouble when she puts her mind to it, but a good companion. I can't really complain.

Does she play pranks, or is she merely energetic?

Pretty energetic--she likes trying to set things on fire.

...Namely, my shirt.

...You might want to look for fireproof shirts, just in case.

I did come here wearing a little armor, and I kept it just in case. That's the closest I've got.

With the number of Fire-types around, they should have a fireproof clothing industry. They have the market for it, at least.

Maybe one of the larger cities has something for it.

If any of them do, it would be Goldenrod. No city in Johto has as much choice in clothing and other products.

Goldenrod pretty much sounds like the go-to place from what I've heard. I'm kind of interested to get a look at it.

It is more lively than Cherrygrove, Violet, Azalea and Ecruteak put together. The Department Store seels products that are much more helpful to trainers than the usual potions.

Sounds like my kind of place. I haven't seen many modern human cities, so I admit I'm kind of interested to see how they work around here.

They work impossibly. Goldenrod is by the sea, yet it has no port to receive the goods it then sells. Neither does it have the industries needed to make them.

...huh. Well, I can't say I'm stunned; this whole place is impossible.

Yet it still makes more sense than it did during the last weekend of October.
