☘ 044; [video]

[Poor Lancer had been having a rough time of things these past few months. Today he seemed very frazzled, showing up on video with what appeared to be bite-shaped wounds all over his arms.]

So, uh...Scathach, right? Ever since I got her she's kinda used her mouth to find her way around--I'm pretty sure she can't see anythin' or something like that. I was hoping she'd grow out of it when she evolved, but--well, look!

[He turned the Pokegear to instead display:]

[...Chewing on his inventory backpack with one head and a pillow with the other.]

I can't stress this enough: help.

Sorry, sorry. [THINKING FAST NOW, BECAUSE LANCER'S STUFF IS AT STAKE] Try putting it back in its ball, then?

It'd at least keep her from eating your things, wouldn't it?

Besides, you can just let her out somewhere else...

You have not provided enough discipline.

There is proper discipline to be given outside of combat. You need her to recognize your personal space and what she should not be chewing on.

If that pokemon lives with its eyes covered normally, then it has adapted to life without sight. You must simply change your own perspective.

Then perhaps you should keep a better eye on her.

I have one of these pokemon. I have found providing a nearly endless source of 'chew toys' has done wonders for keeping sharp dragon teeth off things I value more. Praise when the right thing is chewed and a scolding when the wrong thing is chewed has reduced destructiveness to nearly nothing. She's cooperated well.

They're all a little different, I suppose. Have you tried a bone from the market? Perhaps one with meat on it would keep her interest more than a simple toy.

[Xemnas gives a dry chuckle.]

And that is why I try not to catch too many, they get expensive. Still, if you don't find something she likes chewing more it looks like you'll be buying a few extra packs. ....Barring that, you could attempt to push her training a little faster or harder, I believe their final evolved form does have eyes and is slightly less compulsive about biting everything.

[There's something not quite friendly about the smile that crosses his face, but Xemnas isn't really good at friendly anyway.]

All of them, in fact. Hydregion has three heads. Or more accurately, one primary head; its two forelimbs become secondary heads that aren't .. precisely genuine heads.

Gods delight in the suffering of mortals. If it's any consolation the final evolution tends to be easier to handle in the biting area than its previous forms.

[There's a pause, then:]

But I've also been told they get quite a bit more aggressive. Less biting and more attacking. I do wish you luck with your pokemon. Perhaps you could see a professional trainer, if it becomes too much for you to deal with easily?
firstnothing: (Disappoint)

[personal profile] firstnothing 2013-11-19 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I should hope not. I'm not concerned at all that your pokemon will try to kill you. She would be a poorly handled creature if she went after her own master.

...Only fourteen levels to go! I'd suggest chew toys made from strong ropes until then.

My Hydreigon. I named her after my elder brother, and the name turned out to be very fitting.

[Mostly due to her type, but why bother mentioning that?]

Would you like to meet her?

[There's a long moment of silence of Dave just staring at the screen.] Tried teaching her to use scents instead?

Or sound? Hahahaha, shit and I still have to get one to complete my dragon knowledge.

Dunno, you never be sure with the blind. Try the scents route. I bet it will work somehow. It wouldn't be so hard to train her into if feed her the foods that she needs to id by scent.

Smellovision. There's one crazy blind chick that could have told you more about it, but she's gone.
soundmind: (Unsure ► Oh ah...okay...um.)

[personal profile] soundmind 2013-11-19 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ah...well, if she's blind naturally, you can't exactly wait for her to grow out of it and figure out how to feel around for herself...having a lot of chew toys around for her to grab onto should help with the biting instinct, but you're going to have to teach her how to feel around eventually. Maybe with trying to introduce her to using her sense of smell first?

[She's not really sure how you train animals, to be quite honest.]
soundmind: (Unsure ► is that comic sans)

[personal profile] soundmind 2013-11-27 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
...Well yeah, they bite, that's how they see around because they're blind. If that advice isn't going to help though, get stronger stuff and wait until she evolves into her third form?

[A beat. Her frown deepens.]

But it's a vicious Pokemon anyway. That sure seems to be a problem with everyone I've met that has one of these.
dressofheaven: (Now let me see...)

Xion helped me teach Hydra to respond to touch and poke things out with his nose and claws rather than bite them, but I had to start when he was really young. It's going to be a lot harder to teach yours now.

[And the Bad News Train keeps a-rolling.]
dressofheaven: (Well that's no good)

[personal profile] dressofheaven 2013-11-27 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Which is going to make your job even harder, but there's really nothing else you can do. She has to be able to find her way around somehow.

So either she forgets, or needs a better incentive not to... In the former case, I'm not sure what can be done, but in the latter, persistent enforcement of the rules may help.
